Why we built this
Phone scams targeting older adults aren't rare, and they aren't clumsy. They're a coordinated, well-funded industry that specifically targets the isolation of aging — a parent living alone, a grandparent without anyone nearby to check a suspicious call with in the moment. Education helps, but it isn't enough on its own: even careful, intelligent people get fooled by a call engineered to sound exactly like their bank, or exactly like a grandchild in trouble.
HAPS was built around a simpler idea: instead of asking an aging parent to get better at spotting scams, put a trusted person between them and every stranger who calls. Not by taking away their phone or their independence — by quietly screening what reaches them, the same way a real assistant would, from anywhere in the world.
