How HAPS works

Real protection your parent never has to think about

HAPS works at the phone line level — there's nothing to install, nothing to learn, and nothing that changes about how your parent answers their phone. Here's exactly what happens, from the moment you turn it on to the moment a screened call reaches you.

Three steps. Zero effort for your parent.
STEP 1

Build the trusted list

Together with your parent, you choose who can always reach them — family, friends, doctors, the pharmacy. Their real relationships, saved once.

STEP 2

HAPS screens calls and texts

Trusted contacts connect instantly, no delay, no menu, no difference at all. Unknown callers hear one sentence saying they are being directed to the family admin. Unknown texts forward to you with the sender's number attached.

STEP 3

You answer for them

The call rings your phone, plain and simple. Pick up and you're instantly talking to them. Miss it, and it goes to a recorded voicemail you can review anytime — block the number from your dashboard if you need to.

Turning it on: the activation dial code

Setup takes about ten minutes and never requires installing anything on your parent's phone. From their phone, you (or they, with you on the line) dial one short GSM forwarding code — the same kind of code carriers have supported for decades to forward a line to voicemail or another number. That code points their line at a dedicated HAPS number instead.

From that moment on, every call and text to your parent's number passes through HAPS first. Their number never changes, their phone never changes, and nothing about how people reach them looks any different from the outside.

Not sure which code your carrier uses? Your dashboard shows the exact steps for AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and most prepaid carriers — and if you'd rather not do it alone, we'll walk you through it live on the phone.

What a trusted caller experiences

Nothing. That's the point. Once someone is on the trusted list — family, close friends, the doctor's office, the pharmacy — their calls and texts connect exactly as they always have: instantly, with no menu, no delay, and no indication that HAPS is even involved. Your parent picks up their phone the same way they always have, for the people who actually matter to them.

What an unknown caller experiences

An unrecognized number never reaches your parent directly. Depending on how you've configured routing in the dashboard, the call either goes straight to a recorded voicemail, or rings you (the admin) live first. If it rings you, a short spoken whisper plays before you're connected — "Screened call for [your loved one's name] from [caller's number]" — so you always know exactly what you're picking up before you answer. From there you can accept the call, send it to voicemail, or block the number outright.

Unknown text messages work the same way: they forward to you with the sender's number and the full message attached, so you can decide what to do before your parent ever sees it. Genuine 911 and public safety numbers always bypass screening entirely and connect straight through, no exceptions.

The admin dashboard review flow

Everything HAPS intercepts lands in one place: your dashboard. Every screened call and text is logged with the caller's number, the outcome, and — for voicemails — a recording and an automatic transcript you can read in seconds instead of listening all the way through.
